Mitsubishi Motors teased an extended version of its XForce SUV (sold overseas). Currently a Hyundai Creta rival in ASEAN markets like Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, the XForce will now have a larger sibling to challenge Hyundai’s Alcazar in the seven-seater segment. The teaser was recently revealed ahead of its debut at the upcoming Philippine Motor Show.
The teaser reveals an SUV that looks like an extended version of the XForce, keeping much of the original design but stretching the wheelbase to accommodate extra seats. On the inside, the new seven-seater SUV is expected to retain the XForce's impressive features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a Yamaha-developed 8-speaker sound system. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine powering the XForce will likely continue in this version, along with a CVT automatic gearbox and four drive modes – Normal, Wet, Gravel and Mud.
The XForce has already made a name for itself as a Hyundai Creta competitor in Southeast Asia, known for its sleek design, tech-packed interior, and versatility. Despite being sold exclusively in ASEAN markets, this model has caught the attention of enthusiasts globally. However, Mitsubishi has no current plans to bring the XForce to India, even though its 7-seater version could be a perfect fit in India’s growing SUV market.
Mitsubishi once held a strong presence in India, particularly with its legendary Pajero SUV, which had a huge following. Notably, Mitsubishi is planning to revive the iconic SUV by 2026 with a new version based on the Triton pickup truck platform. The new Pajero will likely sport a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, four-wheel drive and modern off-road capabilities.
Although Mitsubishi left India some time ago, its ties to the Renault-Nissan global alliance leave a door open for a potential comeback. Both Renault and Nissan have seen success in India with models like the Kiger, Triber and Magnite. With new models in the pipeline, such as the upcoming seven-seater versions of the Duster and its Nissan counterpart, Mitsubishi could see an opportunity to re-enter the Indian market in the future, perhaps through the alliance's framework.
While there’s no confirmation yet of the new seven-seater XForce making its way to India, the possibility of Mitsubishi's return remains a topic of interest.
