Undisguised Next-Gen Alto spied during a TVC shoot; Expected to launch on the 18th of August 2022; Gets a major design overhaul both on the inside and the outside
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been working on the New-Gen Alto for a long time and the hatchback has been spied multiple times in a heavily camouflaged avatar. The affordable car in the country has now been spied undisguised during a TVC shoot and we believe that its launch is round the corner.
Going by the leaked images, the new Alto seems to have grown in size while sporting a significantly upright stance. This comes courtesy of the new Heartect platform which the updated hatchback will be possibly based on, like its siblings the Maruti Celerio and the S-Presso. The car in the leaked images gets new tail lamp units with round elements, similar to the new Celerio. The rear bumper also carries a lot of heft with aggressive creases and works well to enhance the road presence of the vehicle. The 13-inch steel wheels will most likely continue in the new model with a new design for wheel caps. It is expected to get an aggressive front end with changes to the grille, headlamps and bumper.
The story continues on the inside, as we are expected to witness an all new dashboard design that will feature a new centre console, a new steering wheel design and a new instrument cluster which will most likely come equipped with a tachometer.
The new model will most probably offer new features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable ORVMs and power windows for rear passengers.
Despite going through a major facelift, the new model will carry forward the 796cc 3-cylinder petrol engine from the outgoing model with similar power figures of 48bhp and 69 Nm of torque. Additionally, it could also get the new 1.0-litre K-Series Dual Jet Dual VVT engine, recently introduced in the 2022 S-Presso. This engine will produce 67 bhp with 89 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The AGS transmission can also make its way to the new Alto, paired with the 1.0-litre engine.
According to media reports, the new Alto is set ton debut on the 18th of August 2022 before the start of the festive season with deliveries likely to start sonn after. We expect the updated car's price to start from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of Renault Kwid in its segment.
Renault opens its largest global design centre in Chennai, marking a key step in expanding its presence in both Indian and international markets.
