Euro NCAP released its crash test report for the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift, giving it a three-star rating. While it scored 67% in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), its Child Occupant and Vulnerable Road Users performance stood at 65% and 76%, respectively. The car tested was a Japanese import, unlike the homologated model on sale in India.
Out of the reserved 16 points, 10.5 went to frontal impact and 11.5 to lateral impact tests. It scored a stellar 4/4 in the rear impact crash test. The driver and front passenger have good protection in frontal offset crashes but safety quotient for the driver’s chest was weak and marginal for the passenger.
Taking six and 10-year-olds’ safety in reference, the Euro NCAP awarded the 2024 Swift 14.1 points out of twenty-four. The child restraint system received a full score of 12 but only 6 out of 13 points in terms of safety features. It further reported that chest and neck safety was weak to poor.
In this segment, autonomous features of the hatchback like emergency braking were put to the test, deeming it adequate, just like speed detection and lane assist systems. The crash testing agency gave it a poor rating when approaching a car ahead. It also lacked a rear occupant detection system, a mandatory requirement for scoring. Suzuki does equip the global-spec car with a driver drowsiness detection system.
