Volkswagen has unveiled an all-new Tharu XR SUV in the Chinese market. The SUV looks similar to the Volkswagen Taigun available in India. However, the Tharu XR is slightly longer than the Taigun with some fresh styling at the front and back.
The new Tharu XR is built on the MQB A0 platform that also underpins India-spec cars such as Virtus, Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq.
In terms of length, the China-spec Tharu XR is 134mm longer than the VW Taigun which stands at 4221mm while the Tharu XR is 4,355mm long. With the additional length, the SUV is likely to offer a bigger boot over the Taigun's 385-litre boot space.
From the design perspective, the Chinese Tharu XR features a newly-designed front grille, headlamps, front bumper, and dark-tinted connected tail lamps with transparent lenses, giving it a more premium look than Taigun.
Interior details of the Tharu XR are yet to be revealed. However, we can expect the SUV to offer more or similar features to Taigun. New features are likely to be added to the SUV.
The Tharu XR takes power from the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which offers multiple states of tune. The top-spec variant is likely to deliver 158 bhp of power with 250 Nm of torque. Power is to be sent to the front wheel through DSG automatic transmission. A manual gearbox is expected to be on offer.
The new Renault dealerships hosts the brand’s New Visual Identity (NVI), which includes a new logo and a black facade.
