Honda Cars India is planning to launch a wide range of new cars and SUVs in the Indian market over the period of next 5 years. The company will launch an electric SUV based on the Elevate SUV. Set to rival the Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric, the new Honda electric SUV will arrive next year. However, the next big launch from the Japanese brand is a new 7-seater SUV.
Honda is reportedly developing a new platform, codenamed PF2, which will be used to develop the new 3-row SUV. The new PF2 will be a versatile platform and will be compatible with different types of engines including petrol, strong hybrid and electric. The new Honda 7-seater SUV won't be a 3-row version of the Elevate. Instead, the company will create an all-new SUV to rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others.
The new 7-seater SUV will be a global SUV and will be slotted between the Elevate and CR-V. This model will be offered with both petrol and petrol-hybrid engines. It will get the tried & tested 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Elevate and City. This engine is capable of producing 119bhp and 145Nm of torque.
While Elevate is not available with a hybrid engine, Honda will use the City's e:HEV hybrid powertrain to power the new 7-seater SUV. The SUV will get the Atkinson Cycle 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine that is paired to two electric motors. The first motor act as an electric generator and the other will work as propulsion. The maximum power output and torque stands at 126hp of power and 253Nm of torque. In the City hybrid, the engine is claimed to offer an ARAI certified mileage of over 26.5kmpl.
An electric version of the Honda 7-seater SUV is also reportedly under consideration. The electric SUV will take on the likes of the upcoming Tata Safari EV and the Mahindra XEV 7e or XUV.e8.
The new PF2 platform will be used to develop multiple products including a sub-4 meter SUV and the next-gen City sedan. The sub-4 meter SUV will rival the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue and others.
