It is no secret that Hyundai and Kia are preparing to launch hybrid cars in the Indian market. Kia has already confirmed that the next-gen Seltos will come with a strong hybrid engine. Similarly, Hyundai is also developing the next-gen Creta which is likely to share the powertrain options with the next Seltos.
The second-generation Hyundai Creta was launched in 2020 and received its mid-life facelift in January last year. It is expected that the next-gen Hyundai Creta will be launched in our market sometime in 2027. Adding to it, the Korean brand is also working on an all-new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. This SUV will sit above the Alcazar and will be a proper rival to the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
Internally codenamed SX3, the next Creta will be manufactured at Hyundai's Tamil Nadu based production unit. Similar to the next-gen Seltos, the next-gen Hyundai Creta is likely to receive a strong hybrid powertrain. The exact details about the powertrain is yet to be revealed. It is expected that the new hybrid unit will be based on the 1.5L NA petrol engine. The hybrid system will have a small battery pack, a 1.5L NA petrol engine and an electric motor.
The next Creta is likely to retain the existing petrol engine options including a 114bhp, 1.5L naturally-aspirated and a 157bhp, 1.5L turbocharged. It is early to comment whether the diesel engine will be on offer or not. Hyundai will need to make several changes to the existing 1.5L diesel engine to meet the stringent BS7 emission norms. This is likely require new rounds of investment, which will increase the cost of production.
The next-gen Hyundai Creta will also receive significant design and interior changes. It will directly rival the Tata Sierra, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos and others in the segment.
Hyundai is also likely to give mid-life update to the newly launched Creta Electric in 2027. It is expected to receive design and interior changes; however, details are yet to be revealed. The mid-sized electric SUV will rival the likes of the Maruti e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6 and others in the category.
