India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Ahead of its nearing launch, Nissan has made official its India-spec X-Trail’s specifications at a reveal event. With only the Magnite on sale here, Nissan will start an onslaught of new cars with the fourth generation X-Trail, followed by Juke and Qashqai SUVs. The X-Trail is making a return after a decade and will be brought as a CBU.
Underpinned by the CMF-C platform, this SUV retains Nissan’s iconic V-Motion grille, all-LED headlamps with DRLs above and front parking sensors. Wraparound tail-lamps at the back look conventional in non-connected avatar. Underneath the rounded wheel arches lie 20-inch alloy wheels, largest in C-segment, finished in diamond cut wearing Michelin rubber. Uncoloured plastic cladding runs across the body, enhancing its SUV look. There will be three paint schemes on offer, namely Solid White, Champagne Silver and Diamond Black.
At 4,680 mm, the seven-seater falls short of the Skoda Kodaiq by about 20 mm, while height and width measure 1,725 mm and 1,840 mm, respectively. However, its 210 mm ground clearance is north of the latter by 18 millimetres.
As teased earlier, the production-ready version will come with two screens - a 12.3-inch infotainment unit with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and digital driver’s display. Other feature highlights include wireless charging support, dual-zone AC, a panoramic sunroof and 360-degree camera. Second-row seats split in 40/20/40 format and get sliding and reclining functionalities, whereas the last-row seats are 50/50 split-fold compatible and can be reclined.
The X-Trail’s safety bundle comprises seven airbags, traction control, ABS, EBD and hill-hold assist. It is reported to be equipped with Level 2 ADAS on launch. Nissan may negate the autonomy suite’s addition as that would add to the heavily taxed CBU car’s cost.
Earlier, CarLelo reported that the X-Trail would be powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine generating 163 hp and 300 Nm of pull force. While it gets a 12-volt mild hybrid system, Nissan has opted out of a strong hybrid setup it offers overseas with this ICE motor to keep costs low. The India-bound car will be FWD only, as opposed to earlier reports suggesting the X-Trail to be AWD. With the recent subtraction of road tax on strong hybrids in Uttar Pradesh, which other states are likely to follow, Nissan may consider bringing its green tech to the country later.
Before discontinuation, the SUV’s last recorded ex-showroom price went up to Rs. 27.44 lakh. As it is coming via the CBU route, CarLelo expects Nissan to price the four-wheeler from Rs. 40 lakh to Rs. 45 lakh. That price segment is populated by the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster SUVs.
