Skoda Auto aims to enter the highly competitive sub 4m segment by introducing its new compact SUV in the Indian market. Expected to be launched in the first half of 2025, it will become a great challenger to the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Skoda is yet to decide on the name of its upcoming compact SUV. However, a few names were shortlisted previously by the brand including Kayaq, Kliq, Kaiq, Karmiq, Kyrog, Kosmiq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kymaq, and Kylaq.
Skoda will use the MQB-A0-IN platform for its smallest SUV. This platform also underpins the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq. But, for the sub 4m SUV, the automaker will tweak the platform for accommodating shorter wheelbase.
Further, the all-new compact SUV will be the brand's first car to use the Modern Solid design language in India. This design language reflects the simplicity, solidity and quality of Skoda cars.
The exterior details are yet to be revealed, however, the brand has shared a few design sketches online, hinting at how the car may look in its production-ready avatar.
Skoda claims that their new offering will exhibit a bold and muscular shape around the fenders. It will feature a hexagon pattern on the side and rear profile. It will also have a high ground clearance.
Based on the teaser images, it is clearly visible that the compact SUV will have LED headlights with LED DRLs, a signature front grille, LED taillights, a chunky rear bumper, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
The interior of the upcoming Skoda car has not been teased yet. However, being the smaller version of the Kushaq SUV, we can assume some of its features will be carried over to the new compact SUV. These might include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, a 2-spoke steering wheel, and an electric sunroof.
As for the powertrain, the upcoming Skoda compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine can produce 113 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Expected to compete against the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the Skoda compact SUV could be priced between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue will also be on the rival list.
