Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki has registered two new names; Escudo and Torqnado, in India. These names might be used for two out of eight new car models that Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce in India within the next four years.
Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce 8 new cars in the next four years. Some of them will be updated versions of existing models like the Swift and Dzire. One of the new launches will be the eVX, an electric SUV concept that was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023. It is likely to keep the same name when it is released for sale.
Besides, there are other exciting models to watch out for. These include a larger 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, an electric MPV, an electric hatchback for the mass market, a 3-row compact MPV to compete with the Renault Triber and a Mini-SUV to rival the Tata Punch.
In Japan, Suzuki already uses the name Escudo for an SUV, so the Indian version of the 7-seater Grand Vitara is expected to adopt this name. However, the name Torqnado is new and does not have a previous connection.
The next launches from Maruti Suzuki in India will be the updated Swift and Dzire. Both car models have been spotted during tests in India. The latest sighting was of the Dzire facelift, which is based on the Swift hatchback. Besides, the eVX is set to make its debut in its final production version by late 2024. It will be available for sale sometime in early 2025. The rest of the models will be introduced gradually from 2025 onwards.
