Tata Motors is all set to launch the long-awaited Altroz Racer in the Indian market. In fact, the company has officially teased the performance-oriented hatchback for the first time. The Tata Altroz Racer will be launched in our market sometime in June 2024.
For people not in the know, Tata Motors had showcased the Altroz Racer concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production-ready model was showcased to the public at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai i20 N Line. Bookings for the new sportier hatchback is expected to commence in June 2024.
The Tata Altroz Racer will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Nexon. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The regular Altroz i gets a 108bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Altroz Racer in production avatar comes with multiple visual changes and new features. It has a dual-tone paint scheme with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. The 'RACER' badge is placed on the front fenders. Upfront is a prominent grille finished in gloss black treatment that gives it a sporty feel. The hatchback rides on newly styled 16-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin of the new Altroz Racer is more premium and feature-loaded compared to the regular model. It features a new, bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is the same infotainment unit that is offered on the bigger Tata SUVs including the Nexon, Harrier and Safari.
The hatchback will come equipped with ventilated front seats, a Heads-Up Display, a 360-degree surround view mirror, and an electric sunroof. The 'Racer' insignia will be embossed on the leatherette seats. It is likely to offer 6 airbags, ESC, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, reverse camera and others as standard safety features
The Altroz Racer will be positioned above the Altroz iTurbo, which costs about Rs 9.20 lakh - 10.10 lakh. It is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 11 lakh.
