After confirming a dual-clutch automatic (DCA) transmission on the upcoming Curvv, Tata will likely offer it in its other diesel SUVs starting with the Nexon. A recent leak suggests Tata may reserve this gearbox for the range-topping Fearless + S persona. Besides a manual and AMT, Nexon’s 17 petrol variants can be paired to a DCA unit, whereas the larger Harrier and Safari siblings miss out on one.
As per data from the government’s Vahan portal, Tata sold a total of 6,490 diesel passenger vehicles (PVs) last month. Also betting big on the fuel are Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra offering AMT and torque converter gearboxes. Since 2020, this will be the first time for a BS6 diesel four-wheeler to sport a twin-clutch gearbox.
The 1.5-litre diesel Nexon belts out 113 bhp and 260 Nm of pull force. With the DCA add-on, the Nexon might become the fastest-accelerating sub-four-metre diesel SUV. Additionally, Tata may equip the Nexon with its new 1.5 litre Kryojet engine debuting on the Curvv. Other feature offerings will reportedly be similar while it may get a panoramic unit with the update. It is expected to hit our shores on September 2 alongside the Curvv.
