As we have reported before, Tata Motors is currently testing the Nexon Facelift in India. The new SUV will get a redesigned exterior, an updated interior, and more powerful powertrains. Interestingly, the automaker may also give the popular SUV a new name plate.
According to a latest media report, the Nexon Facelift could be renamed. This was confirmed to the photographer of the media outlet by the engineering testing the vehicle at that moment. The person went on to further state that the car under test was the DCT-automatic variant.
The Nexon nameplate has grown into being recognisable and having a strong brand recall over the years. It is quite surprising to hear about a possible renaming. However, what Tata may do is add a suffix to the SUV, like the Bolero Neo or Scorpio N.
The spy shots also give us a fair idea into the exterior design of the upcoming Nexon SUV. While heavily clad in camouflage, it looks like the four-wheeler will offer a split headlight setup with a LED light strip spanning the width of the bonnet. The overall profile of the facelifted model will remain the same as the current model. While the rear will stand to offer new tail lights connected by an LED light bar and a raised tailgate.
Like the exterior, the interior of the subcompact SUV will offer upgrades and a design refresh. It is expected to get added new features like a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, twin-spoke steering wheel, sunroof, auto climate control, ambient lighting, a premium audio setup, and more. The company is also going to introduce ADAS-Tech like Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Change Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Tata Motors will offer both petrol and diesel powertrain options in the Nexon Facelift. The existing turbo-petrol motor is likely to be replaced by a new 1.2-litre TGDi engine that would deliver a maximum power output of 125 bhp with 225 Nm of peak torque. While the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine would be good for producing 114 bhp and 260 Nm torque. Transmission choices would include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a new 7-speed DCT.
Given Tata has just started testing the Nexon Facelift, a launch is still a while away. We expect the new model to go on sale in India by mid to late 2024. Upon launch, the New Nexon Facelift will rival the likes of Nissan Magnite, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, and the Kia Sonet.
