Tata Motors is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the fast growing Indian market. Despite sluggish demand for EVs, the homegrown automaker continues to follow its EV-first policy and will add 4 new electric vehicles in line-up before the end of 2025. The big update is that the iconic Tata Sierra will finally make its comeback in modern avatar next year.
The Tata Sierra lifestyle SUV will be offered in both EV and ICE avatar. The ICE version will be launched shortly after the arrival of Sierra EV in the second half of 2025. It is expected the Tata Motors will follow the Curvv's strategy of introducing EV one month before launching the ICE model.
The Sierra EV will be designed and developed on the Acti.ev architecture that also underpins the Punch EV and the Curvv EV. It will be offered as a 2WD electric model as standard, while a dual-motor AWD setup will come as an optional with the top-end variants. The same setup will also be offered on the upcoming Harrier EV and the Safari EV. It is likely to be packed with a battery of around 60kWh to 80kWh. We expect the Sierra EV to offer a range of over 500kms on a single charge.
The new Sierra ICE version will be designed and developed on the brand's new ATLAS platform, which also underpins the new Curvv ICE. The platform is compatible with vehicle measuring between 3.9 meters and 4.6 meters in length. It will be offered with both petrol and diesel fuel options. The diesel version is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine that also powers the Harrier and Safari. This engine produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
The petrol version will mark the debut of Tata Motors' new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine which was unveiled alongside the new 1.2L T-GDi unit at the 2023 Auto Expo. This engine was claimed to offer 168bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
