India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Japanese automaker Toyota is planning to introduce a wide range of new SUVs in the Indian market over the period of next 1 year. The company is developing a 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which is scheduled to arrive in 2025. Moreover, the brand's electric SUV based on Suzuki eVX will be launched in first half of 2025. A new media report claims that Toyota will also launch the new Land Cruiser Prado in India next year.
The new-gen Land Cruiser Prado was unveiled in global markets in 2023 and is currently on sale in select markets. It is reportedly to be launched in the country in late 2025. In some markets, the SUV is called the Land Cruiser 250. However, the India-spec model is likely to carry the Land Cruiser Prado moniker. It will be positioned below the Land Cruiser 300 on sale in India.
Internally known as the JC250, the new Land Cruiser Prado is claimed to offer improved on- and off-road technology. It is based on the same TNGA-F platform, which underpins the LC300 and Lexus GX. It is a ladder frame architecture, which is claimed to be 30% stiffer than the previous model.
In terms of proportions, the new Land Cruiser Prado is 4920mm long, 1870mm tall and 1980mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 2,850mm. The SUV is bigger than the predecessor, offering more cabin space. It shares features and switchgear with the Land Cruiser 300. In terms of features, the SUV gets multi-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a digital instrument console and a larger touchscreen infotainment unit.
The latest Prado has better all-terrain capabilities, as it comes with increased wheel articulation, and an upgraded Multi-Terrain Monitor interface. The SUV gets a disconnecting front anti-roll bar, which can be controlled via a switch on the dashboard. This allow for maximum wheel articulation on challenging off-road terrains.
It is powered by the same 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that powers the Fortuner. It will also come with a 48V MHEV mild-hybrid tech, which we have already seen on the MHEV-equipped Hilux lifestyle SUV. The same powertrain is expected to be offered on the India-spec Fortuner. Coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, the diesel engine produces 201bhp and 500Nm of torque.
The LC Prado also gets a 2.4-litre petrol engine with a hybrid tech, which is the same powertrain that powers multiple Toyota and Lexus models in global markets.
