India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
It is overdrive mode for Toyota Kirloskar Motors, who plans to introduce at least 1 SUV and 2 MPVs in the coming twelve months.
Growing along in the partnership, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is expected to introduce a slew of products in the Indian car market. This includes Maruti Ertiga remake called Toyota Rumion and a new mid-size SUV codenamed D22. But in recent news, the company is also planning to introduce its budget-friendly C-segment MPV in India to rival the likes of the Kia Carens and the Maruti Suzuki XL6.
Expected to be called the Avanza, this model will be built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DGNA). The four-wheeler will be smaller than the Innova Crysta in dimensions which is also built on the DGNA platform. For reference, the international model of the Avanza measures 4.4 meters in length, has a wheelbase of 2.75 metres and sits on 16-inch alloy wheels. The dimensions of this MPV puts it in the same ballpark as its rivals.
It is expected that the Avanza may come equipped with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine present on the international model. This mill produces a maximum power output of 106 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. Rumour also suggests that Toyota will equip the MPV with a hybrid unit expected to debut with the new mid-size SUV D22.
On the inside, the car will feature a basic interior that will be less premium compared to other MPV models from the company. The cabin will include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and fabric seats to help save cost. The model will be available only in a 7-seat configuration.
Expected to arrive in India by mid-2023, this MPV will sit above Toyota Rumion and below Innova Crysta. Pricing for this C-MPV is likely to start north of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
