Japanese automakers, Toyota is preparing an all-new SUV, which will be positioned below the Fortuner SUV in select international markets. This model was first previewed as a rugged SUV with boxy silhouette at the global debut of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Rumoured to be called the Toyota FJ Cruiser, the new SUV is likely to be revealed in early 2026.
A new set of patent images leaked on the INTERNET shows the possible design of the upcoming Toyota FJ Cruiser. This lifestyle SUV could be the smallest Land Cruiser, and could carry a nameplate of Land Cruiser FJ.
The patent images reveal that the new SUV from Toyota will share styling cues from the Compact Cruiser EV concept that debuted in 2021. It is reportedly to be based on the IMV 0 platform, which is basically the modified version of the IMV ladder frame chassis. This platform is developed to accommodate affordable utility vehicles and the HIlux Champ pickup is the first model based on this architecture. This pickup is currently on sale in Thailand and Indonesia.
The patent images reveal that the Land Cruiser FJ will have boxy stance with a five-door configuration. It retains the rugged stance with flat front fascia housing rectangular grille, tall front bumper and heavy body cladding. The SUV has thick C-pillars, prominent fenders and an upright rear doors, and tail-gate mounted full0size spare wheel. Also See - Top Cars launching in June 2025
The new Toyota FJ Cruiser is reportedly to measure around 4,550mm in length, 1830mm in width and 1860mm in height, and a wheelbase of around 2750mm. The SUV will be taller and more rugged than the Corolla Cross. It is likely to be launched in markets where Corolla Cross is not on sale.
The new SUV is likely to be offered with multiple engine choices including a 2.0-litre petrol engine that powers the Hilux Champ. Other engine choices could include a 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel. The SUV will also come with a 4WD setup, which we have already seen on the Toyota Fortuner.
