Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has finally launched the 48V mild-hybrid variants of the Fortuner and Legender in the Indian market. The Toyota Fortuner diesel mild-hybrid and Legender diesel mild-hybrid are priced at Rs 44.72 lakh and Rs 50.09 lakh, respectively. For people not in the know, the Fortuner MHEV is already on sale in select international markets including South Africa.
The mild-hybrid diesel engine comprising Toyota’s 2.8-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder GD series engine, a belt-integrated starter generator and a compact lithium-ion battery. It comes with a regenerative braking system, which activates while slowing down or braking. It is claimed to offer smoother acceleration and lower emissions.
The start-stop system shuts the engine off at idle, offering improved fuel efficiency and city driving. It continues to offer Multi-Terrain Select system, which takes power delivery, traction and braking inputs to suit different surfaces. The electric motor gives additional torque, which reduces engine strain and eases crawl performance.
There are no design changes in both the Fortuner and Toyota Legender MHEVs. The Fortuner retains its bold, purposeful appeal for off-road enthusiasts, while the Legender is a more premium offering with dual-tone body colours, split LED headlamps and sharper front. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets dual-tone leather upholstery, 360-degree panoramic camera system and wireless smartphone charging capabilities.
For safety and security, the new NEO-hybrid Fortuner and Legender gets seven airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control with Brake Assist, Hill Assist Control, Traction Control System and others. Additional safety equipment includes Child Restraint System, front row seatbelt with pre-tensioner and force limiter, speed sensing door lock, and WIL Concept Seats.
Toyota is offering tailored financing options with the new variants, which includes funding plans up to 8 years with reduced EMI options. The Fortuner and Legender MHEVs come with five years of complimentary roadside assistance and a standard 3-year/ 1-lakh km warranty that can be extended to 5 years/2.2 lakh km.
