Maruti Suzuki launched its latest crossover, the Fronx earlier in April this year. Now, Toyota, its JV partner, is planning to introduce a rebadged version of the Fronx in India by the end of 2023. Media reports suggest that it will be named the ‘Taisor’. We take a closer look.
The New Taisor will essentially be identical to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. However, it will get some exterior styling changes to differentiate the two models. Expect the Taisor to feature reprofiled bumpers, a new front grille, Toyota badges all round, new LED DRL signature in the headlights, and different colour options.
Moving inside, the interior of the Taisor will be the same as the Fronx except for different upholstery colours. In terms of features, it will provide a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Heads Up Display, connected car tech, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, auto climate control, and more.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors will offer two petrol powertrain options on the Taisor. First will be a 1.2-litre N/A motor making 89 bhp with 113 Nm of peak torque while the other would be a 1-litre turbo-petrol unit delivering 100 bhp of power and 148 Nm torque. Transmission options would include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
According to the latest reports, Toyota is likely to introduce the crossover around the 2023 festive season, with deliveries expected to start before the end of this year.
Upon launch, the Taisor will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Citroen C3 Aircross, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Tata Nexon.
Mahindra will launch 3 ICE-powered SUVs and 2 battery electric vehicles in the country in CY2026 - Next-gen Bolero or XUV500 could arrive next year.
