Flex fuel, the short form for flexible fuel is a term which is used to describe a fuel made from the combination of petrol with ethanol or methanol. This new fuel is a more environment friendly alternative to the regular ICE options currently available and more often cost-efficient. The ethanol mix in petrol is produced from natural sources like sugarcane and corn, thereby making it a more sustainable source of fuel.
Flex Fuel engines come equipped with modified internal components like the fuel pump, ignition timing, ECU and injectors to accept and run on more than one source of fuel. These engines can support up to 85% of ethanol mix in the fuel.
