• 1390 units affected • Faulty parts will be replaced free of charge • Toyota suggests avoiding the use of affected cars till inspection
Japanese automaker Toyota Kirloskar Motors has issued a recall of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Glanza due to an issue with the airbag controller. The brand stated that 1390 units of the two models produced between December 8, 2022, and January 12, 2023, may have been fitted with the faulty part and will need to be replaced immediately.
As mentioned above, Toyota suspects that a possible defect in the airbag assembly controller may lead to the airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. As of now, there have been no reported failures of the affected part. However, the vehicles will be recalled and inspected. If the part in question is found to be faulty it will be replaced free of cost.
Being a part that directly affects occupant safety, Toyota has requested owners of the cars included in the recall to avoid using them until inspection. Authorized dealers will contact customers for the same or owners can contact the representatives on their own.
This is also the second time the Hyryder has faced a recall in two months as around 1000 units of the SUV had to be recalled for a possible defect in the front seat belt shoulder height adjuster assembly.
Maruti Suzuki has also issued a recall for the Grand Vitara and Baleno, the siblings of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Glanza for the same airbag assembly controller issue. The probable faulty part has also affected models like the Maruti Alto K10, Eeco, S Presso, and Brezza, totaling over 17,000 units.
