A few days ago, Maruti Suzuki showcased the next-gen Swift at the Japan Mobility Show. While the automaker said it was a concept, it looked nearly production-ready. Now, the latest spy shots have revealed the all-new Swift is already being tested in India. We take a closer look.
While the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift test mule is clad in full camouflage, the leaked images still revealed a few design elements of the upcoming hatchback. Like the concept that was showcased, the new model retains the now familiar Swift silhouette with its tapering roofline but does get a more prominent shoulder line. Even the headlights and taillights are largely unchanged as well. The new Swift does get a new grille, redesigned bumpers at the front and rear, and larger 16-inch alloy wheels. Essentially, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is more like a heavily-updated model instead of being an all-new model.
Moving inside, the new Swift’s interior now looks quite similar to the Maruti Baleno and Fronx. Key highlights include a larger freestanding infotainment unit, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a dual-tone finish on the dashboard, wireless charging, and more. While Maruti did not confirm, it is likely that the India-spec Swift will miss out on a few features like the rear disc brakes or ADAS features.
The new Swift will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor, codenamed the Z12. It will replace the current K-series four-cylinder 1.2-litre unit.
Maruti Suzuki cars is yet to reveal the specifications of the new motor, but expect it to make similar peak power and torque figures as the current motor (89 bhp and 113 Nm). The concept showcased at the Japan Mobility Show featured strong hybrid tech. However, it will likely not be offered in India for cost reasons.
Suzuki is slated to globally launch the new Swift by mid-2024. Expect Maruti to bring the next-gen hatchback to our shores by the end of 2024 or early-2025.
