Nissan India currently has only Magnite as a compact SUV in its portfolio. The brand recently launched the facelift version of this SUV at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). With the growing demands from the customers, Nissan aims to add more products to the brand's lineup. It is believed that the Japanese automaker is planning to introduce two new midsize SUVs and the new mass-market e-SUV by the end of 2026. Ahead of that, Nissan will launch a new midsize SUV in India that will compete with the popular Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Kia Seltos in the segment. Let's read more!
Earlier, the Japanese manufacturer had Terrano in its portfolio which was a badge-engineered version of the Duster SUV. As is well known, Renault is gearing up to launch a third-gen Duster and Bigster in our country.
The upcoming compact SUV from Nissan will be based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-B platform which also underpins the India-spec Renault Duster, slated to launch next year. Due to the same platform, it is expected to use the same engine choices. However, the exterior and interior profile will be different.
Nissan's upcoming compact SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The former is paired to a CVT automatic while the latter is mated to a manual and CVT automatic. It is also likely to get an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system.
For Nissan's upcoming model, we can expect the India launch in 2025. As for the ex-showroom price, it could hover in the same range as its rivals Creta and Seltos, which falls between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom).
