Volkswagen Group has officially announced the introduction of two global models in India—the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line. Both models will be brought in as Completely Built Units (CBUs), with the Tiguan R-Line set for launch on April 14. Meanwhile, the Golf GTI, Volkswagen’s legendary hot hatch, has already been spotted in India without camouflage, hinting at its imminent arrival. This performance-focused hatchback will be a limited-run model, with only 250 units allocated for the Indian market.
Here is what you need to know about this much-anticipated hot hatch.
Volkswagen Golf GTI stands out with its sporty and stylish design. It is longer than most hatchbacks in India, almost the same length as a Hyundai Creta. The GTI badge on the front doors reminds you that this isn’t just any Golf—it’s a performance-focused hot hatch. The 5-spoke alloy wheels add to its sporty look, while the red brake callipers give a bold contrast.
At the back, it features 3D LED tail lights with dynamic turn indicators, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tip exhaust, all adding to its sporty character.
While the interior of the India-spec Volkswagen Golf GTI has not been revealed yet, we know that the imported global model comes with a high-tech and feature-packed cabin. It will get a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which even includes ChatGPT integration for voice commands. The hatchback will also feature a GTI-specific digital instrument cluster with red accents and sporty red inserts throughout the cabin.
Other premium features include a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered and ventilated front seats, a heads-up display, multi-zone climate control, and multi-colour ambient lighting.
Safety features will include multiple airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), an electronic parking brake, and electronic stability control (ESP). It will also have a suite of ADAS features.
The Golf GTI will be powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that can churn out 263 bhp and 370 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic which delivers power to the front wheels. Foot on the pedal, and you can reach the 100 kmph mark in just 5.9 seconds before maxing out at 250 kmph.
