The Germans are set to increase their Indian SUV range by introducing two new SUVs, the Volkswagen Tayron and the Volkswagen Tera. Thus, the company will make an excellent show in the dynamic SUV market.
Volkswagen Tayron will launch in Indian markets by the end of 2025. It would replace Tiguan Allspace and sell a version with five or seven seats for family-friendly SUVs.
The Tayron features 231mm of an elongated wheelbase than the Tiguan, which shall accommodate a third-row seat. But, it will earn the company an additional 198-litres of rearmost boot capacity. It will be the company's first venture in the Indian SUV space as a direct entrant into Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian territory.
It's literally stuffed with features inside the Tayron. So, you will get a 12.9-inch infotainment system touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The HUD is optional at 15 inches.
Safety above all. The Tayron packs in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, (ADAS). From lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control to autonomous emergency braking, this vehicle is safer than most on the road.
While there are umpteen choices for the global engine options on the Tayron. Those choices will include petrol, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and diesel. The Indian specifications are yet to be revealed.
Volkswagens' Tera will be India's first sub-4-metre length SUV. The car, according to reports, is expected to hit Indian roads sometime in the year 2026. Tera, essentially, is based on the MQB A0 platform, just like the Skoda Kylaq.
Powering it will be a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, good for 115bhp. Besides, it will come with an option for both manual and automatic transmissions.
It looks very muscular. Tera would be available with LED headlights, a muscular bumper, black cladding, and what not. It is fashioned like a Nivus Coupe SUV in every single feature. It would be topped up with the latest infotainment system along with other premium elements inside the cabin.
Tera would be competing with compact SUVs like Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon. This car is apt for that urban buyer who seeks an efficient and fashionable vehicle.
Volkswagen is selling three models in India currently. These include the sedan Virtus and SUVs Taigun and Tiguan. The Tayron and Tera are meant to cater to two highly growth-generating SUV segments in the Indian automobile market.
The launches detail the strategy of the company for enlarging its portfolio. With new model launches, Volkswagen will respond more to customer needs and thus strengthen its stance in the Indian automobile market.
