Volvo Cars, the Swedish automaker, has just released the first teaser of its upcoming electric luxury MPV. Dubbed the EM90, the new MPV is primarily targeted towards the Chinese market. The automaker says the EM90 offers the ambience of a "Scandinavian living room on the move".
The all-new Volvo EM90 is going to be based on Geely Zeekr MPV. Expected to by to underpinned by the same SEA platform as the Volvo EX30 and the Smart #1, the new MPV will feature a more minimalist design theme both on the outside and inside. The core focus of the new model will be to provide more space, comfort, and connectivity.
Code named 009, the four-wheeler is designed by Stefan Sielaff, ex-Bentley design boss, at Geely’s new global design centre in Gothenburg, Sweden. Though Volvo did not confirm, the EM90 was likely designed parallel with the Zeekr.
The Volvo EM90 will likely use the same powertrain as the 009. It will have a 140 kWh battery pack powering a dual-electric motor setup making a combined 543 bhp of peak power. The 009 has a claimed range of 817 km, expect Volvo to claim a similar as well.
Volvo has confirmed that it will globally reveal the EM90 on November 12. Interestingly, it is the first MPV in the brand’s history and the first non-SUV launch from the brand since 2019.
In India, Volvo is slated to launch the C40 Recharge EV early next month.
