Volvo first electric vehicle in a line of many planned to make the brand fully electric by 2030; Gets a WLTP range of 418 kilometres on a full charge; Locally assembled to keep costs in check; Sold out for 2022
After what felt like an eternity, Volvo Cars India has finally launched its first electric vehicle for the Indian market at a starting price Rs 59.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The first locally assembled luxury EV promises a lot of tech, exceptional range and gets its own Metaverse shop called the Volvo Verse, where customers can order their new car.
In order to make the new Volvo XC40 Recharge a sustainable, the company has adopted CKD route, with assembly already in full swing at the brands Hosakote manufacturing facility near Bengaluru. Pre-booking for the four-wheeler starts from the 27th of July 2022 at a token amount of Rs 50,000. Deliveries are set to start from the October this year, in time for the festive season.
The electric SUV comes equipped with a 78 kWh battery pack paired to a 150 kW electric motors mounted on both axles. The system is rated for a maximum power output of 408bhp and peak torque of 660 Nm. The powerful battery-motor combination helps the EV complete the 0-100 kmph sprint in less than 5 seconds while delivering a claimed range of 418 kilometres in one full charge. The carmaker claims a charge time of 28 minutes (10-80 percent) using a DC fast charger.
The locally assembled XC40 Recharge will be available only in one variant, priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price the vehicle offers 3 years warranty, 3 years RSA, 4 year subscription to digital service and one 11kW wall charger.
In addition, the EV owners can also choose to join the TRE KRONOR- 3 Crowns of Swedish Luxury club that offers them curated experiences throughout the year.
Volvo is offering its electric SUV in five colour options, namely Crystal While, Glacier Silver, Black Stone, Fusion Red and Denim Blue.
