Mahindra XUV.e8 The Mahindra XUV.e8 is the homegrown brand’s first attempt at a performance electric sports utility vehicle (SUV). Based on the ingeniously developed INGLO skateboard modular platform, the four-wheeler is the electric counterpart of the XUV700. Battery options range from 60 kWh to 80 kWh with a reported range of up to 450 kilometres Mahindra Thar Armada 5-Door Another highly anticipated SUV from the house of Mahindra is the Thar Armada five-door, the bigger sibling of the three-door Thar. Besides the added list of features like ADAS, panoramic sunroof and larger touchscreen infotainment system, the longer SUV will feature three engines - a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel, with the latter two borrowed from the bigger Scorpio N. Tata Curvv EV The electrified version of the Curvv EV will make inroads into the domestic market before the ICE Curvv. It will house a 56.5 kWh battery pack with a range of up to 500 kilometres. The coupe-inspired SUV will resemble the overall silhouette of its ICE counterpart. However, power and torque figures need to be officially revealed by Tata. Tata Curvv ICE The Tata Curvv’s launch will follow the Tata Curvv EV and feature three turbocharged engines - 1.2-litre petrol borrowed from the Nexon, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Apart from the powertrains, it will get a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and flush door handles. Tata Nexon CNG The upcoming Nexon CNG is special. It is the first car to feature turbocharging with a CNG setup in India. Also, Tata will place the two cylinders strategically using its dual-cylinder space-saving technology. The five-star rated sub-compact SUV will be powered by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine belting out 107 horsepower and 153 Newton metres of torque. Expected mileage is 20 kilometres per kilogram.  Hyundai Alcazar Facelift Hyundai’s very popular Alcazar is set to get a facelift with thorough updates to its exterior, interior and powertrains. The very technologically loaded Alcazar will share two petrol and one diesel engine with the smaller Creta, each 1.5 litres. The power and torque figures of these engines are in the bands of 113 hp to 157 hp and 144 Nm to 253 Nm. Gearbox options may include a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch and six-speed torque converter. Hyundai Creta EV The other offering from Hyundai is the electrified version of the Creta compact SUV. If reports are to be believed, it will feature a battery and motor setup from the entry-level Kona EV sold overseas. The power and torque output from the 45 kWh battery is 138 hp and 255 Nm, respectively. The expected range of the Creta EV is up to 450 kilometres. Kia EV9 The only offering from Korean car manufacturer Kia, the EV9 is a technological marvel in terms of features and performance. While the EV6 is already on sale in India, the bigger EV9 will come with 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh batteries producing up to 380 horsepower and 516 Newton metres of torque. The range from these batteries is going to hover between 370 kilometres and 490 kilometres. Citroen Basalt Expanding its limited lineup of cars in the country, Citroen will launch its Basalt coupe-SUV to compete with the Tata Curvv EV. It is expected to get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine belting out 109 horsepower and 190 Newton metres of pull force. Based on the CMP platform, the SUV will have automatic climate control, rear AC vents and electrically operated outer rear view mirrors. Tata Harrier EV After riding high on the very successful Harrier diesel SUV, Tata will launch the electrified version of the same. Another highlight of the electric avatar of the SUV is that it will sport dual motors for all-wheel drive, something that is present in its ICE rival, the Mahindra XUV700. Range has always been a concern with Electric Cars and continues to act as a roadblock towards their adoption. Carmakers are consistently trying to address this concern with newer cell chemistry and fast charging. All the variants of the Nexon EV have a two-month waiting period.  The base Creative line coming at Rs. 14.49 lakh makes 127.39 bhp, while the Long Range trims (Rs. 16.99 lakh to Rs. 19.49 lakh) take it up to 142.68 bhp. Out of the five variants, four are available with a larger battery pack of 39.4 kWh and the power and torque figures remain the same for all the trims. The maximum range goes up to 456 kilometres with a torque output of 310 Newton metres. There is an 8-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty on the battery pack and motor.  With a 50 kW DC public charger, you can expect a charging time of 50 minutes. Notably, the base variant is priced on the higher side but the top-end car is about Rs. 73,000 cheaper at Rs. 18.76 lakh as compared to the Nexon EV. A battery capacity of 77.4 kWh is offered as standard with the RWD and AWD variants, making 225 bhp and 320 bhp, respectively. The torque range starts from 350 Nm and goes all the way up to 605 Nm. The BYD Seal is its latest offering and comes in three variants: Dynamic, Premium and Performance. Battery capacity for the former variant is 61.44 kWh, while the latter two share an 82.56 kWh battery pack with a range of 510 km, 650 km and 580 km. The homegrown passenger car manufacturer Tata Motors is all set to introduce a wide range of new SUVs in the next couple of years. Before the end of this financial year, the company will launch 4 new SUVs including two EVs, 1 ICE SUV and 1 CNG in the country.  Tata Curvv EV Tata Motors will introduce the long-awaited Curvv EV SUV Coupe in the country during the festive season that's before Diwali. The electric SUV will challenge the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVX, Hyundai Creta EV and the Honda Elevate EV.  It will be built on Tata's new Acti.ev platform that underpins the Punch EV. This flexible architecture can support different body styles and powertrains, larger battery packs, and dual-motor AWD setup.  The Tata Curvv EV will be packed with several high-end comfort and convenience features along with advanced safety tech. It is likely to get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way powered driver's seat with memory & welcome function, a dual-zone climate control and a digital driver's display.  The SUV is also likely to get ADAS Level 2 with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, collision avoidance warning and others. It is likely to be packed with a battery pack of around 50-60kWh with a front-axle mounted electric motor. The SUV should offer a range of up to 500km on a single charge.  Tata Curvv ICE The ICE version of the Tata Curvv SUV Coupe will also be launched in the country towards the end of 2024 or early 2025. The ICE version will share features with the Curvv EV and the Nexon. It will be offered with petrol and diesel fuel options.  The SUV Coupe will also mark the debut of Tata's new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This engine alongside the 1.5L 4-cylinder direct-injection engine debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo. The new powertrain produces 125PS of power and 225Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).  The diesel version will receive the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo unit that powers the Nexon. This powertrain is capable of producing 115PS and 260Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by either a 6-speed manual or an AMT unit.  Tata Nexon CNG Tata Motors has confirmed that the Nexon CNG will be launched in the country before the end of this year. Likely to go on sale during festive season, the new Nexon CNG will be the country's first CNG car with a turbocharged petrol engine.  The CNG SUV will get a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine along with Tata's twin CNG cylinder technology. The power and torque figures are yet to be revealed. We expect the Nexon CNG to witness a significant drop in power and torque outputs compared to the petrol-only variant. It will directly rival the Maruti Brezza CNG.  It will be equipped with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine along with Tata's twin CNG cylinder technology. The twin-cylinder setup is also available in the Tiago and the Tigor CNG. In fact, Hyundai is also readying the similar twin-CNG cylinder tech for its CNG cars. A 6-speed manual gearbox is likely to come as standard. Similar to the Tiago CNG, the Tata Nexon CNG could also get the AMT option. Tata Harrier EV Tata Motors will finally launch the electric Harrier in the first quarter of 2025. It is expected to be introduced at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January. The electric SUV will directly rival the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8. The Harrier EV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads.  The Tata Harrier EV will come with AWD (all-wheel-drive) layout, offering dual electric motors - one for the front axle and the other one is for the rear axle. Tata Motors is all set to introduce the highly anticipated Curvv SUV Coupe in the Indian market. The Tata Curvv will come in multiple engine options including EV, petrol, diesel and CNG. Before Curvv CNG, Tata Motors will introduce the Nexon SUV with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The same setup will also be offered on the Curvv CNG.  Tata Curvv EV Launch Timeline The Curvv EV was originally planned to be launched in the second quarter of 2024; that is not likely to happen. It was expected to enter the production line in the first quarter of 2024; however, the plans got delayed due to general elections.  If all goes well, the Tata Curvv EV will be launched by August-September 2024 that's before Diwali. The electric coupe SUV will be designed and developed on Tata's new Acti.ev platform that underpins the Punch EV. This architecture is flexible enough to support multiple body styles and powertrains, larger battery packs, and dual-motor setups for AWD systems. Tata Curvv ICE Launch Timeline Tata Motors will introduce the ICE-powered versions of the Curvv SUV Coupe in the country towards the end of 2024 or early next year. The production of the ICE Curvv is expected to begin in September 2024. The CNG version is expected to arrive at a later stage, most probably in the mid-2025. It will directly rival the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG and the Toyota Hyryder CNG. Curvv Diesel  It was speculated that the Tata Curvv could only be offered with petrol and electric powertrains. However, Tata confirmed that the SUV Coupe will be offered with a diesel powertrain. In fact, the company revealed the diesel specifications of the Coupe SUV at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. It will be powered by the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that powers the Nexon. This engine produces 115PS and 260Nm of torque. It is likely to be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox or an AMT unit.  Curvv Petrol The Tata Curvv will be equipped with Tata's new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which debuted alongside the 1.5L turbo engine at the 2023 Auto Expo. The new direct injection unit is capable of producing 125PS at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 225Nm between 1700rpm and 3500rpm. This powertrain can run on petrol and E20 ethanol petrol mix fuel and will be compliant with the BS6 Phase II emission norms. Gearbox options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission). Tata Curvv CNG The Curvv CNG will be the second car after Nexon to feature a turbocharged petrol engine. It will be equipped with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged   powertrain along with Tata's twin CNG cylinder technology. The company has not revealed the power and torque outputs of the new CNG powertrain. It will see a significant drop in power outputs; however, the Curvv CNG will be more powerful than the Grand Vitara CNG. A six-speed manual gearbox is likely to come as standard, while an AMT unit could also be on offer.  More Details The new Tata Curvv SUV Coupe will be produced at Tata Motors's production facility in Ranjangaon, which is also shared with Stellantis.
