Toyota Kirloskar Motors had launched the Hilux pickup truck amid much fanfare in India last year. However, the automaker had to stop taking orders as the first batch of units were sold out within just a few months of its launch. Now, the company has announced that it has reopened bookings for the Hilux at Rs 50,000. You can pre-book the legendary vehicle via Toyota’s official website or through a dealership near you.
The Toyota Hilux is offered in the double-cab body configuration in India. While it shares some design elements with the Fortuner, the pick-up truck looks quite different with its large hexagonal grille, swept-back LED headlights, and a rugged bumper offering a skid plate. The double cab silhouette is pretty uncommon in India, meaning it will catch people’s attention. The rear end is all business, with a big boot lid and LED taillights.
Moving inside, the Hilux’s interior looks familiar as it shares a fair bit of equipment and trim with the Toyota Fortuner. It comes filled to the brim with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, active traction control, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, 7 airbags, active traction control and an automated limited-slip differential.
Powering the Toyota Hilux is a 2.8-litre, four-pot turbo diesel motor that churns out 204 bhp with 420 Nm of peak torque (500 Nm when paired to an automatic). Transmission options for the pick-up include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The Hilux is based on the same IMV-2 platform that also underpins the Fortuner and Toyota Innova Crysta. This means parts like the engine, transmission, and four-wheel drive system will be shared, helping further to keep the overall cost down of the vehicle.
The Toyota Hilux is offered in three variants throughout the country. The entry-level 4x4 MT Standard is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh, the mid 4x4 MT High trim costs Rs 35.80 lakh and the top-end 4x4 AT High will set you back by Rs 36.80 lakh. Do note that all prices mentioned are ex-showroom only.
