JSW MG Motor India has an aggressive product strategy - one new product every ten weeks over the next year. The MG Windsor is the latest offering from the OEM that has been making waves in the EV segment by beating the leader – Tata Nexon.ev. It became the top-selling electric car in the country last month. Talking about the company’s upcoming products, MG will soon introduce the updated Gloster that has been on test for a long time now. MG Select, the new sales network for the brand’s upcoming premium models, will also witness two major product launches – Cyberster and Mifa 9. Let’s delve into some key details of the aforementioned upcoming MG cars.
The official launch timeline of the new MG Gloster facelift is yet to be announced. However, it’s likely to hit the roads towards the end of this year. Minimal changes are expected to be made inside and out. The spy images reveal that the SUV will have a larger touchscreen infotainment system replacing the existing 12.3-inch unit. It might also receive a fully digital TFT instrument cluster with customizable interfaces. It will have an all-black layout instead of the tan upholstery.
Similar to the China-spec Maxus D90, on which the Gloster is based, the India-spec model could get the revised dashboard, AC vents, and an all-new center console. On the exterior, the new MG Gloster facelift will receive slightly revised front and rear bumpers, redesigned LED headlamps with a split pattern and pronounced DRLs, a front grille with horizontal slats and more chrome bits, newly designed alloy wheels, and new taillamps connected via a light bar running across the tailgate. For power, the new Gloster will continue to use the existing 2.0L diesel engine with both 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain systems.
The MG Select retail channel will be dedicated to EVs, PHEVs, and strong hybrid MG vehicles in India. The MG Cyberster is most likely to be the first offering under this premium dealership network. This electric sports car made its India debut earlier this year alongside the MG4 EV hatchback and 5EV estate. The Cyberster comes with two battery pack and motor options.
While the entry-level variant features a 64kWh battery and a single rear axle-mounted 308bhp motor, the top-end variant uses a 77kWh battery with a dual-motor setup delivering a combined power of 544bhp with 725Nm of torque. While the former delivers a claimed range of 520km, the latter offers 580km CLTC-certified. The bigger battery version with a dual-motor AWD setup can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 3.2 seconds. The overall length, width, and height of the MG Cyberster stand at 4,533mm, 1,912mm, and 1,328mm, respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2,689mm. In India, MG’s new electric sports car will take on the new Porsche 718.
The MG Mifa 9 will be the second electric offering to be retailed via MG’s new ‘MG Select’ dealership network. We have already seen this electric MPV in full light at last year’s Auto Expo, and it’s expected to be put on display again at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January. Its market launch will happen in March 2025 at an estimated price of around Rs 65 lakh. Globally, the Mifa 9 is available with a 90kWh lithium battery and an electric motor mounted on the front axle. It comes with an FWD (front-wheel drive) system. This setup delivers a maximum power of 245bhp and 350Nm of torque. The electric MPV delivers a claimed WLTP range of 430km on a single charge.
Dimensionally, it measures 5.2 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in height. That means the new MG electric MPV will be longer and wider than the Toyota Vellfire. Similar to its global-spec model, it could be offered here with both 7- and 8-seat configurations. On the feature front, the MG Mifa 9 will offer twin sunroofs, foldable ottoman seats, powered front and rear seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, rear entertainment screens, and more.
