Get ready to welcome multiple new cars and SUVs starting January 2025. Things are set to get even bigger with the arrival of the second edition of the Bharat Mobility Show, which will be held from 17th to 22nd January 2025. At the event, we will witness the unveiling and launch of several new models. There will be at least five major car launches next month from Hyundai, Kia, Tata, Mahindra, and Mercedes-Benz. Here’s a brief overview of the upcoming new cars:
Mahindra’s born-electric SUVs – BE 6 and XEV 9e – have already been revealed for the Indian market. The carmaker has also announced prices for their base variants – Pack 1 – at ₹18.90 lakh for the former and ₹21.90 lakh for the latter. Prices for the Pack 2 and Pack 3 variants will be revealed with their public debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January. Both EVs come with 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs boosted with BYD’s blade cell technology.
The smaller battery variant delivers a maximum power of 228bhp and an ARAI-certified range of 556km. The larger battery pack, on the other hand, offers 281bhp and a range of 628km. Both batteries are available only with the RWD system. Mahindra says that the BE 6, in its higher-spec version, can do 0 to 100kmph in 6.7 seconds. The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e come with three drive modes – Range, Everyday, and Race. The batteries of these EVs can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger. The carmaker has equipped both electric SUVs with several high-tech features.
The Hyundai Creta EV will go on sale in India on 17th January 2025 with its official unveiling at the Bharat Mobility Show. Once launched, it will face challenges from the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. The Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV will also be their direct rivals. Most of its design and features will be similar to the regular Creta. However, a few changes will be made inside and out.
Up front, the Creta EV will feature a closed-off grille along with a revised bumper. The rear bumper and alloy wheels will also look different from its ICE counterpart. Inside, it will get a new three-spoke steering wheel and a revised centre console with two cup holders and physical buttons. The dual-screen setup will be carried forward from the regular Creta. The powertrain setup of the Hyundai Creta EV will include a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor, delivering 138bhp and 255Nm of torque.
The Tata Harrier EV will be the first product launch from the indigenous automaker in 2025. The SUV’s electric version will be designed on the Acti.ev platform that’s also used for the Punch EV and Curvv EV. This architecture is compatible with all three drivetrains – FWD, RWD, and AWD. The carmaker has confirmed that its Acti.ev platform-based EVs will support 11kW AC and DC fast charging of up to 150kW.
The Harrier EV is likely to be offered with a 60kWh battery pack and a dual electric motor setup. Its range is expected to be around 500km. The electric SUV will support both V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) charging. Most of its design elements will be retained from its concept, such as a closed grille, newly designed front and rear bumpers, a coupe-like roofline, and more.
The Kia Syros subcompact SUV will be officially unveiled on 19th December 2024, while its prices will be announced at the Bharat Mobility Show in January. While its official details will be revealed in the coming days, it’s reported to come with two engine options – a 1.0L turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm) and a 1.5L turbo diesel (114bhp/250Nm). There will be three gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 7-speed DCT automatic.
The Syros will offer several segment-first features, such as Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and a panoramic sunroof. The dual-screen setup (one for the infotainment system and one for the instrument cluster) will be carried forward from the Seltos. This subcompact SUV will also come with a host of high-tech features, such as an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, six airbags, and more.
As per media reports, the Kia Syros will have more cabin space (especially for rear-seat occupants) than the Sonet. It will have reclining rear seats that will also help create more boot space.
On 9th January 2025, Mercedes-Benz will launch two electric SUVs – the EQS 450 and G 580 – boosted with EQ technology. First, talking about the Mercedes EQS 450, the electric SUV will come with a 5-seat configuration and a 122kWh battery delivering power of 544bhp and 858Nm. It will be the first EV in India to feature the largest-capacity cells. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes using a 200kW DC charger. Some of its key features include a 56-inch Hyperscreen setup (a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster), twin 11.6-inch rear entertainment screens, multi-zone automatic climate control, a 15-speaker Burmester audio system, Level 2 ADAS, 9 airbags, and more.
The Mercedes G 580 (electric G-Class) comes with a 116kWh battery pack and four electric motors powering each wheel. Each motor delivers a maximum power of 147bhp and features a two-speed gearbox. The combined power and torque outputs stand at 587bhp and 1,165Nm, respectively. The German luxury carmaker claims that the Mercedes G 580 accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in less than 5 seconds and is capable of attaining a top speed of 180kmph. Its battery can be charged via a fast charger at speeds of up to 200kW. It’s claimed to offer an electric range of 470km on a single charge.
The G 580 possesses serious off-road capabilities, thanks to its mechanical differential locks, independent front suspension, shiftable low-range transmission, and G-Turn off-road driving aid.
MG is gearing up to have a great launch lined up with these four new models in India.
