Hyundai Motor India Limited launched the third generation i20 in India back in late 2020. It has become one of the best-selling cars in the country and is one of the few remaining premium hatchbacks in the market. Refreshing the new model for 2023, the automaker has now started road tests with a camouflaged test mule on Indian roads.
Looking at the latest spy shots, the i20 test mule is mainly wearing camouflage around the front and rear ends. The hatchback will likely get a new, wider front grille with a parametric design. The headlights may get reprofiled LED DRL signatures as well.
Moving to the side, the silhouette remains largely unchanged from the current models. However, it does get a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, the i20 will likely get new LED taillights with a full-width light bar as seen on the new Verna.
Inside, the i20 facelift will retain the same overall dashboard design as the current model but may get a new interior colour scheme. Hyundai may introduce some segment-first features like a dual-camera dashcam, 360-degree camera, front-ventilated seats, ADAS features and more.
In terms of features, the current i20 already comes loaded with them. Key highlights include dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, electric sunroof, wireless charging and more.
The new i20 is expected to retain the current powertrain options. This includes a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor that makes 82 bhp with 115 Nm of peak torque. The other option could include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol churning out 118 bhp with 172 Nm of max torque. Gearbox choices will include a 6-speed manual, an IVT, and a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.
Hyundai is slated to introduce the facelifted i20 in India by the end of 2023 or by early 2024. In terms of pricing, expect a small hike over the current model’s price range of Rs 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 11.88 lakh (ex-showroom).
