With all eyes on the perpetual top performer, Maruti reported total sales (domestic and exports) growth of 12.4% at 1.79 lakh units year-on-year in June. Domestic sales (1.48 lakh) and exports (31,033) grew by 6.1% and 57% compared to last year. Further, sales of Utility Vehicles including Ertiga, Grand Vitara and Invicto rose to 18%, becoming the top performer.
A marginal increase of 102 units sold in June 2024 as compared to the year-ago period accounted for 50,103 vehicles for Hyundai. Adding exports, the total sales reached 64,803 cars. The Creta continued with its high-selling streak. SUVs account for 66% of our domestic sales, Hyundai COO Tarun Garg said.
Tata’s domestic sales in June were down by 8% y-o-y at 74,147. On a similar note, passenger vehicles (PVs), including EVs, plunged 8% with 43,624 units. PVs combined on a y-o-y basis had a negative outlook of 1% but the commercial vehicle (CV) sales of 91,209 went up by 6 per cent. Much of it was due to the FAME II subsidy expiry. Tata expects to make a recovery in the coming quarters.
Despite not matching experts’ expectations, Mahindra and Mahindra had a total sales volume of 69,397 vehicles, including 11% exports. Out of these, a 23% growth at 40,022 was contributed by sports utility vehicles. June also saw the rollout of Mahindra’s 200,000th XUV700. CVs sold in the country were 20,594.
Japanese carmaker Toyota registered its highest monthly sales at 27,474 units coming in June. This translates to a 40% increase in dispatches to dealers, with domestic sales accounting for 25,752 cars. Our impressive sales figures are led by the SUV and MPV car categories, Toyota’s Sabari Manohar stated.
Continuing the positive momentum with 126,137 cars sold in last six months (up 6% y-o-y), Kia registered a 10% wholesale increase to 21,300 four-wheelers in June. The Korean brand supplied 19,391 cars in June 2023. A source close to CarLelo stated that Kia is considering the possibility of building a facility in Haryana.
Honda had a 5% fall in passenger car sales to 4,804 units in June. During the same period last year, Honda had sold 5,080 automobiles, it stated. Exports, on the other hand, doubled to 4,972 from 2,112 year-on-year. Honda’s current lineup includes the Amaze, City, City e:HEV and Elevate.
