India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Kia has finally confirmed its upcoming compact SUV for the Indian market. Rumoured to be called the Kia Syros or Clavis, the new model will be the first SUV from Kia 2.0 in our market. The company has also released couple of design sketches of the upcoming car.
These sketches confirm that the new Kia Syros will be a lifestyle SUV with rugged and boxy design. Kia claims that the latest SUV features "evolved Design 2.0 philosophy and high-level advancements in tech, space, and safety." It is clearly visible that the new model will be similar in size as the Sonet.
We expect the new Syros lifestyle SUV will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia's line-up. It will come as a more rugged alternative to the likes of the Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The SUV has squared-off wheel arches, door mounted ORVMs, uniquely shaped headlamps with LED DRLs, flat roof and straight panels with prominent shoulder line. Also visible is the usable roof rail and roof-integrated spoiler.
The rear profile looks significantly different from most of the Kia cars on sale in India as well as in global markets. It gets a big glasshouse area and uniquely styled vertically stacked L-shaped LED tail-lights. Going by the sketches, we expect the SUV to offer a high ground clearance, sturdy and rugged-looking body cladding and aggressive bumpers.
Kia has confirmed that the new Syros SUV will come with high-end tech and safety features. Previous spy images reveal that the SUV will have panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered driver's seat, and an advanced driver assistance system or ADAS tech. The ADAS tech will offer features like autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance assistance, adaptive cruise control and others.
The SUV is likely to get six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree surround view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front parking sensors and rear disc brakes.
The new Kia Syros is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic. The SUV could also get the 1.5L turbo diesel engine with manual and torque convertor automatic gearbox options.
It is expected that the Syros will also receive an electric derivative at a later stage. The SUV is likely to be packed with a battery pack of around 40-45kWh capacity. The EV could offer a range of over 400km on a single charge.
