New Car Buying Platform
Korean automaker, Kia plans to launch 4 new cars including electric vehicles and SUVs in the Indian market in 2025-26. The company will introduce 2 new electric UVs including a 3-row EV based on Carens and an all-new compact SUV. Kia is testing the Carens facelift, which is expected to be launched in the country in early 2025.
Adding to it, the Korean brand will introduce the electric derivative of the Carens MPV in India. It will be based on the heavily modified K2 platform that underpins the Carens ICE, Creta and Seltos. This is the same architecture which will underpin the Hyundai Creta EV. It will come with EV-specific design changes, which will be in-line with Kia Born electric EVs.
The Kia Carens EV will have a different suspension setup compared to the regular model. In terms of features, the electric MPV is likely to get an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, Level 2 ADAS tech and a digital driver's display. It is expected to be packed with a 45kWh battery pack along with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The Kia Carens EV is likely to offer a range of up to 450km on a single charge. It is expected to be unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, while launch likely in late 2025.
The Carens facelift will arrive in mid-2025. It will receive design changes with front having similarities with the latest Sonet and Seltos. The cabin is likely to be shared with the Sonet along with new features such as a 360-degree surround view camera and an ADAS suite. The MPV will retain the existing engine line-up including a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 1.5L turbo petrol.
The Korean brand is also testing an all-new compact SUV, which is rumoured to be called the Kia Syros or Clavis. It will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV and will slot between the Sonet and Seltos. The compact SUV is expected to make its global debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January.
The new Kia Syros will come with boxy styling with flat bonnet and straight surfaces. It's styling with be more in-sync with the brand's flagship Telluride 3-row SUV and Soul on sale in the International market. In terms of features, the SUV will have panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat and ADAS. For safety and security, the SUV will have 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree surround view camera, TPMS, rear disc brakes and front & rear parking sensors.
It is expected to receive a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic unit. The entry-level variants could get a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with a manual gearbox option. The company is also preparing an electric derivative of the SUV, which is likely to get a battery pack of around 40-45kWh.
