Mahindra & Mahindra has just announced that it has sold over 9 lakh units of the Scorpio. One of the oldest nameplates in the Indian market, the first-gen model was introduced over 20 years ago in 2002.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., stated, "Reaching the milestone of over 9 lakh Scorpios being rolled out from our production facilities is a moment of immense pride for Mahindra. We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and loyalty of our customers, who have made the Scorpio an unrivalled icon in the SUV segment. With the recent launch of Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic, we have taken this power brand to new heights, reaffirming its position as an authentic SUV. This milestone reflects the strong bond we have formed with our customers over the years, and we remain committed to delivering exceptional SUV experiences."
The Scorpio was launched back in June 2002. In the years since, it has gone through multiple updates. Currently, the SUV is in its second-generation with the new Scorpio N that was launched last year. Mahindra also sells the previous-gen model as the Scorpio classic alongside the new model. The 9 lakh sales mark is the combined total of all the models of the popular SUV.
Furthermore, Mahindra has quite a long booking backlog for the Scorpio currently, with waiting periods stretching to nearly an year. According to the latest reports, there are around 1 lakh pending orders for the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic. The automaker has ramped up production to bring down the waiting period of the SUV. It is likely that the Scorpio will quickly cross the 10 lakh units sold milestone by next year.
The new Mahindra Scorpio N is priced between Rs 13.05 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 24.52 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices for the Scorpio Classic range from Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 16.81 lakh (ex-showroom).
