Tata Motors has been planning to make not only the EV product line stronger but also maintain a strong presence in the ICE vehicle market. Not only does the automaker have plans to introduce new EVs in the market but also updated ICE models with different engines, new editions, and facelifts of current models. For 2025, the homegrown carmaker has plans to introduce a petrol and electric version of the Safari SUV.
The brand will be offering the Safari model with the all-new 1.5-liter turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine which is claimed to offer 170bhp and 280Nm of torque. It is said that Tata's new TGDi petrol engine will have an aluminum body for lightweight and stiffness.
Tata said that this new petrol engine would come with a longer service life and low ownership cost. This new engine is fitted with valve timing, dual cam phasing, a variable oil pump, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head.
Apart from that, a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger is expected to help with better torque and improved acceleration. Compared to Tata’s other engines, it promises better performance and fuel efficiency.
The Safari will have the same battery pack as the Harrier EV which was revealed recently and has been spied in the production-spec. The pack will range somewhere between 60-70 kWh and is claimed to offer a range of up to 500 km on a full single charge.
It is likely that the SUV will only have a change in the engine and the features it offers will be the same as the current. No changes are so far expected for the petrol variant.
The SUV would offer features like a 10-inch touchscreen JBL infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Safari electric variant will rival the MG ZS EV, and BYD Atto 3, and the petrol variant will compete with the Mahindra XUV 700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.
