Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to add a new variant to the Scorpio Classic’s lineup. Likely to be called the S5, this new variant will sit in the middle between the Classic S and Classic S 11 trims. The new variant is being added as the top variant is a slow seller since it is priced very closely to the Scorpio N. We take a closer look at this upcoming SUV yet to be launched into the Indian market.
Mahindra will be offering three seating configurations on the Scorpio Classic S5 - a 7-seater with captain seats, a 7-seater with bench, and a 9-seater with bench seats. Depending on the trim level, the other variants of the Classic only get two of the three options. However, recent reports suggest that the top S11 variant will also feature a 9-seat configuration as an option.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic S5 will be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk Gen 2 turbo diesel engine that is carrying out its duty in rest of the variants. The engine is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 132 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Mahindra does not offer an automatic gearbox or an AWD option on the Scorpio Classic.

Upon launch, the Scorpio Classic S5 will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Scorpio N in its segment.
