Mahindra is speculated to launch the all-electric XUV400 on September 6; Will take design cues from the eXUV300 concept; Expected to cross the 4-metre length barrier and offer a range of 400 kilometres
Just days after the unveiling of the Born Electric platform concept SUVs, Mahindra & Mahindra is back in news with the XUV400. Set to be the company’s first mainstream electric SUV, the XUV400 is reported to hit the India market earlier than expected. Based on the eXUV300 concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, spy shots of the EV surfaced online a few weeks ago, while on road tests, which also hints at the possible launch soon.
In terms of the overall design, the four-wheeler looks identical to the XUV300, but has grown in size. Now measuring around 4.2 meters in length, the EV is based on SsangYong Tivoli’s modular architecture. The increase in length helps accommodate the battery pack and offer more space and practicality on the inside. Other changes to the exterior are limited to a new headlamp unit with DRLs, blanked-off front grille, aero efficient alloy wheels and a reworked rear bumper.
Moving to the inside, the vehicle is expected to get a minor revision to the dashboard layout along with a slew of additional features like a 10-inch infotainment display with AdrenoX interface, connected car tech and possibly ADAS functions. The blue accent theme reminds the passengers of the SUVs electric underpinnings.

Although information about the powertrain is scarce, we expect the SUV to come powered by a 150 bhp single motor unit channelling power to the front wheels. The battery pack will have high-density NMC pouch cell technology in the interest of more power and a better driving range.
Once launched, the Mahindra XUV400 EV will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EV in its segment.
