India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Maruti Suzuki is all set to foray into the electric vehicle (EV) segment early next year with the production-ready eVX SUV. Prior to its official arrival, the carmaker has started surveying its dealership network to establish charging stations. The company aims to set up nearly 25,000 EV charging touchpoints nationwide, along with over 5,100 service centers across 2,300 cities. Maruti Suzuki is currently in talks with energy firms and oil marketing companies (OMCs) to establish charging infrastructure.
The upcoming Maruti eVX will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Gujarat facility and sold via Nexa dealerships. The company aims to sell 3,000 units in the first three months of its market arrival. The electric SUV is estimated to be priced between Rs 20 lakh – Rs 25 lakh and will compete with the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
Specifications of the Maruti electric SUV are not available at this point in time. However, it’s speculated to be offered with a 60kWh battery pack and an electric motor. Its range will be around 500km on a full charge, and it will come with an AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The eVX will underpin an all-new platform derived from Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture and measure around 4.3 meters in length.
The production-ready Maruti eVX will stay true to its concept. Upfront, it will feature a closed-off grille, LED headlamps, a flat bonnet, and an upright nose. The side profile will be adorned with squarish and pronounced wheel arches, muscular shoulder creases, and a coupe-SUV-like roofline. At the back, there will be connected LED taillamps, a sporty bumper, and a small spoiler.
The interior of the production-ready eVX is still a mystery. However, we expect it to feature a dual-screen setup serving as an infotainment system and an instrument cluster. Features such as ADAS tech, a 360-degree camera, a floating center console with a rotary dial, a frameless rearview mirror, and a two-spoke steering wheel might also be on offer.
