Mercedes-Benz will be introducing the GT 63 S E performance in India on the 11th of April, 2023. The coupe is the first plug-in hybrid model from Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance subsidiary (AMG). We take a closer look at the upcoming performance machine.
Compared to the ‘regular’ AMG GT 63 S, the E Performance gets slightly different styling. This includes a new front bumper that is inspired by the GT coupe, new badges, new exhaust outlets, and an exclusive alloy-wheel design. The rear provides a flap on the rear bumper for a charging port.
The interior of the GT 63 S E Performance stays largely similar to the ICE-powered model except for a few subtle changes. The dual 12.3-inch screens offer multiple new hybrid-specific displays that include an EV range indicator, electric motor power gauge, and real-time power consumption data. Other features like the AMG steering wheel, sports seats, and upholstery is the same as the non-hybrid GT 63 S.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S E Performance is the most powerful production vehicle from the German automaker. The plug-in hybrid vehicle is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that delivers a maximum power output of 639 bhp with 900 Nm of peak torque. Coupled with an electric motor, the combined power output stands at 843 bhp with 1400 Nm of peak torque. Only the Limited Edition One delivers higher power figures. This allows the GT 63 S E Performance to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in a stomach churning 2.9 seconds while its top speed is restricted to 316 kmph.
The 204 bhp, 500 Nm making electric motor is powered by a 400V, 6.1 kWh battery pack. Mercedes states that the battery weighs only 89 kgs and provides the hybrid sedan an electric only range of 12 kms. It also allows for one-pedal driving capability in certain driving conditions, and gets four levels of regenerative braking.
As mentioned, Mercedes-Benz will be launching the AMG GT 63 S E Performance in India on the 11th of April, 2023. While prices have not been announced, expect the vehicle to cost a bit more than the non-hybrid 63 S’ Rs 2.70 crore (ex-showroom) price tag. Upon launch it will rival the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid in the Indian car market.
