Seven-Seater Maruti Grand Vitara Coming In 2025

Maruti Suzuki is currently developing an extended version of its Grand Vitara SUV. The car currently on sale also boasts a hybrid setup that is likely to be offered in the upcoming seven-seater slated for launch in 2025.

The Grand Vitara, based on the Global C platform, also underpins cars including the Brezza which earlier scored a four-star rating in the erstwhile regime of Global NCAP. With major carmakers like Tata and Mahindra shifting to extremely safe cars, Suzuki will aim to up the safety quotient of its vehicles, which has been controversial over the years. Maruti is likely to equip the car with Advanced Driver’s Assistance Systems (ADAS) as well.

Maruti’s largest SUV on sale comes with three engine options - Mild Hybrid, Strong Hybrid and CNG. Only the former can be mated to both a manual and automatic transmission while the other two get an eCVT and a manual unit. Talking about the engine, there are two 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engines, including a TNGA Atkinson Cycle block sourced from Toyota which gives out a maximum mileage of 27.97 kilometres in a litre of petrol. Reports suggest that Maruti will offer a similar lineup, while the higher-end variants may feature a more powerful hybrid engine.

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder (rebadged Grand Vitara) will also receive a similar set of updates as the Japanese manufacturer will want to fill the void between the compact SUV and the Innova Hycross. It was earlier speculated that Toyota would launch a three-row iteration of the Corolla Cross sold overseas, however, sources close to us tell us that the plan has been shelved owing to huge initial investment costs and positioning against the premium Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodaiq SUVs.
