Tata Motors is going through tough times, as it reported a constant decline in its sales. In fact, the company recorded its lowest sales since December 2021 in June 2025. The homegrown passenger vehicle maker is betting big on the upcoming Tata Sierra to regain its lost ground. The new Sierra will come with both ICE and electric powertrain choices.
Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra electric will first launch in our market, closely followed by the ICE derivative. The electric SUV is expected to be launched during the festive season, around October-November 2025. On the other hand, the Sierra ICE could launch at the end of 2025 or early 2026.
The Tata Sierra will measure around 4.3 meters in length, and will slot between the Curvv and Harrier in Tata’s line-up. The SUV will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine choices. It will mark the debut of Tata’s new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power the Harrier and Safari.
The turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 170hp and 280Nm of torque. Transmission choices likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Sierra petrol will be the most powerful SUV in its segment. Its direct rivals, including the Hyundai Creta N-Line and VW Taigun are available with 1.5L turbo petrol engines. The Creta N-Line’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine produces 157bhp, while VW’s 1.5L TSI engine is good for 148bhp of power.
The diesel version of the Tata Sierra is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec engine that also powers the Harrier and Safari. This engine produces 170hp and 350Nm of torque, and paired to either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The lower-spec variants could get a 118bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel engine that currently powers the Curvv and Nexon.
It is expected that the Sierra EV will get the same battery choices as the Tata Harrier EV. The new SUV will be based on the Acti.ev platform and is likely to be offered with a dual-motor AWD set-up. The battery choices likely to include a 65kWh and a 75kWh. Similar to the Harrier EV, the Tata Sierra EV is likely to offer a certified range of over 600km in a single charge.
