MG Motor India had showcased a wide range of new EVs and hybrid vehicles at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. The company had revealed the Cyberster, M9 and Majestor along with some of its global SUVs at the auto event. MG had also showcased the MG S5 EV, which was least marketed at the event. However, this MG S5 electric SUV is set to replace the popular ZS EV in near future.
MG has confirmed that the MGS5 EV will debut later this year in Europe. This new electric SUV is designed and developed on the modular scalable platform (MSP) that also underpins the MG4 hatchback.
The MG S5 EV comes with a modern styling, featuring a bold front fascia with a split-type LED lighting setup and aggressive bumper that houses two air-intakes. The rear profile has LED tail-lights connected by a LED bar. The side profile has body-coloured ORVMs and silver roof rails. This electric SUV measures 4,476mm in length, 1,849mm in width and 1,621mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,730mm. It is longer and wider than the MG ZS EV. In fact, the wheelbase is 145mm longer than the ZS electric, translating into more interior space and bigger boot.
The new MG S5 will come with an all-new interior with more premium features and practical storage spaces. It is expected to receive a panoramic sunroof, a larger touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver's display, LEVEL 2 ADAS, heated and ventilated front seats, powered driver and co-driver seats and many more.
The MG S5 EV is expected to feature a larger 62kWh battery pack with a certified range of over 500km in a single charge. It will come with a rear-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 167bhp and 250Nm. The global-spec model is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 8 seconds. For reference, the ZS EV gets a front-axle-mounted motor that produces 174bhp and 280Nm.
We expect the new MG S5 electric SUV to arrive in our market. A possible launch in early 2026 can't be ignored. This electric SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV and the soon-to-be-launched Maruti e Vitara.
