India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
At a time when major global automobile markets are struggling to thrive, India maintains a positive outlook. With car buyers shifting towards SUVs, manufacturers have either refreshed their existing lineup or launched new models to make the most of the opportunity. A testament to that statement is the Hyundai Creta which got facelifted in January this year and continues to reign in the compact SUV space. Other players like the Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Brezza are second and third in line.

The diversified SUV segment has become a cash cow for car brands, the most affordable being Maruti Suzuki Ignis at Rs. 5.82 lakh, ex-showroom. Notably, the pre-facelift Hyundai Creta had a subjective design but its sales charts remained unaffected. In July alone it saw a 23% year-on-year increase at 17,350 units. The IPO-bound company is also expected to launch the SUV’s electrified version early next year.
Tata’s Punch and Nexon SUVs saw a sales growth of 16,121 (34%) and 13,902 (13%), respectively. The former micro SUV was followed by Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza, which was sold 14,676 times last month. Despite a negative 11% year-over-year change, Brezza could occupy the third spot on the list. On the same note, the Fronx saw a negative 17% y-o-y change and ranked sixth.
In the sub-compact SUV space, the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Kia Sonet grew by more than 120% to sell 10,000 and 9,459 units. Both cars come with six airbags as standard, while a few top variants feature Advanced Driver’s Assistance Systems (ADAS).
