Toyota Kirloskar Motors recently updated the prices of its Hilux lifestyle pickup vehicle. Available in two trims - Standard and High - the former gets a hefty price cut. Interestingly, the latter has seen a price increase instead. We take a closer look.
Toyota Hilux Standard is now priced at Rs 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom) which is a whopping Rs 3.59 lakh less than before. On the flip side, the High MT and AT models have received a price hike of Rs 1.35 lakh for the former and Rs 1.10 lakh for the latter. The variants are now priced at Rs 37.05 lakh (ex-showroom) and 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Toyota had opened bookings earlier this year for the second batch of the Hilux.
India gets the double-cab variant of the Hilux. The pick-up truck’s front end features wraparound LED headlights and a huge hexagonal chrome grille. The side profile offers a healthy dollop of black body cladding adding to its rugged appeal. The rear of the vehicle is fairly basic with its wide loading bay but does offer lots of chrome detailing.
Moving inside, the Hilux has a slightly different dashboard to the Toyota Fortuner but shares bits like switchgear with the SUV. In terms of features, the pick-up truck provides an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, dual-zone climate control, active traction control, ventilated and powered front seats, leather upholstery, electrochromic inside rear-view mirror, tyre angle monitor and more.
It comes powered by a 2.8-litre four-pot turbo diesel motor that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 204 bhp with 420 Nm (500 Nm on the auto variant) of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It also offers 4WD as standard with a low-range gearbox as well as front rear electronic locking differentials.
The lifestyle pick-up category is a unique segment in the Indian auto market, with only a few models on sale. The closest rival to the Hilux is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, priced between Rs 23 lakh to Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom).
