Amid constant teasers and media furore over upcoming coupe SUVs, August could be a noteworthy month for two car manufacturers - Tata and Citroen. While Tata has confirmed the launch of its Curvv on August 7, industry experts tell us Citroen could launch its Tata rival Basalt coupe SUV next month instead of October as previously thought.
Curvv will share many of its underpinnings with the Nexon, ranging from its X1 platform to turbo petrol and diesel engines. Its electric iteration, however, will be based on the Acit.ev architecture currently seen in Punch EV and Nexon EV. As per teaser shots, exterior features will include flush door handles, connected LED DRLs, panoramic sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, it will get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, ventilated seats and 360-degree camera. Reports suggest that it will also get a Level 2 ADAS suite for enhanced safety while driving.
Tata also showcased a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo that could be offered as well. The Curvv EV’s battery and motor specifications are not out yet but some publications claim it will brag a 500-kilometre range on a single charge.
Overall silhouette of the Citroen Basalt resembles that of the Curvv and gives out a clear message of being a competitor. Talking about the CMP platform it sits on, the Basalt will likely remind you of the C3 and C3 Aircross SUVs which share this same base. That is also true for its exterior design elements featuring LED DRLs with a chrome bridge boasting the Citroen logo in the middle. Notably, it gets projector headlamps instead of halogens on the C3 Aircross. Further differentiation comes in the form of sloping roofline, squared-off wheel arches and dual-tone alloy wheels.
Based on speculations, Citroen will equip the SUV with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, push button start/stop and tyre pressure monitoring system. As for the powertrain, it will borrow the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor from the C3 Aircross, possibly in a higher state of tune.
