Volkswagen has revealed that it is planning to release an entry-level electric vehicle by 2027. The new EV will cost approximately Rs. 18.15 lakh, ex-showroom, thus making it accessible to most customers. This is part of Volkswagen's plan to make electric mobility accessible to everyone.
During a meeting held in Wolfsburg, the chief executive officer of the company, Thomas Schafer, told everyone present what should be expected regarding the future of the brand. This entry-level EV will go quite a long way in making electric cars affordable and of top quality. This car will make up one part of the Volkswagen's new family of electric small cars. He mentioned that this would be an excellent piece and one of the greatest products the company would manufacture.
Volkswagen will first showcase a show car of this new model in March, while the production car is to be offered by 2027. The aim is to develop a car that meets the need of as large a cross-section of people, thus making electric cars accessible to the people in general.
The Wolfsburg plant is supposed to be at the center of this change. As Volkswagen has confirmed, it will remain the heart of the brand-specific production, especially for electric cars, as the core production center. The company plans to introduce new high-tech production technologies at the plant to start supporting the new car models in electric vehicles, including the entry-level car.
Not to be missed on site in Wolfsburg is that this will also be, along with producing ID., home to production of a series of the second generation electric Golfs and e-Tros built on SSP, Volkswagen's first next gen platforms for an electrical vehicle platform portfolio.
It forms part of Volkswagen's very clearly defined so-called triple A plan; which consists of the three steps: - Catch-up, Attack and finally Lead.
Volkswagen has been successful in electric vehicles already. Since 2019, it has sold over 1.35 million ID. vehicles in the global markets. In 2024 alone, it managed to sell more than 380,000 electric cars, an indication of massive growth in electric vehicles.
