Volkswagen has started testing the mid-life facelift of the Taigun, also known as the T-Cross in other markets. While the Taigun has been already spotted testing in Europe, latest spy shots reveal the upcoming SUV being tested in Brazil. The facelifted Taigun is expected to offer a fresh design and an updated feature list including the addition of ADAS-features. We take a closer look at the new images.
Even though the test mule’s front and rear end is clad in heavy camouflage, there are still some design elements visible. The Taigun Facelift is believed to offer a new horizontal-slat front grille while the VW logo is now positioned slightly above on the grille. The headlights seem to be updated as well. Reports suggest that the new Taigun will get VW’s latest IQ headlight tech which is an intelligent system that controls the lighting with a sensor and camera to detect oncoming traffic. There will also be a redesigned bumper with updated fog lamp inserts and air dam. Talking about the side profile, it more or less remains unchanged. Towards the rear, the SUV will provide reprofiled tail lights and a bumper.
Inside, the facelifted compact SUV is likely to get an updated interior theme with new colours for the dashboard and upholstery. The current model already comes packed with features like a 10-inch infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, auto climate control, electric sunroof, push-button start/stop, and more. Besides these, the company is expected to add even more equipment to the already exhaustive list to bring it in line with its rivals. The biggest update is believed to be the inclusion of ADAS-Tech like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
The upcoming SUV is expected to continue with the existing powertrain options in India. The first option is a 1-litre TSI turbocharged petrol that makes 114 bhp with 178 Nm of peak torque. While the other choice is a powerful 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol motor delivering 148 bhp power with 250 Nm torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
VW Taigun Facelift is slated to make its global debut by the end of 2023. We do not expect the German automaker to bring the updated SUV to India anytime soon as the current Taigun was launched only two years ago.
In India, the Taigun rivals the likes of the Škoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder in its segment.
