The Mini Electric, also known as the Mini Cooper SE, was the first electric offering from the British automaker in India. It was launched in February 2022 as a CBU (completely built-up) unit. The electric hatchback combines a sporty design with great handling and a smooth, quiet electric powertrain. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for navigating city streets and fitting into tight parking spots. If you have a home charging facility or access to public chargers, this can be a great choice for your day-to-day commuting needs. The company offers a standard warranty of two years with unlimited kilometers on the Mini Electric.
Mini offers its premium electric hatchback in a single variant, priced at Rs 5350000 (ex-showroom, India).
The interior of the Mini Cooper SE is similar to the standard Cooper hatchback. It’s the first Mini to come with a new 5.5-inch digital instrument cluster. The center console has a new toggle switch for the multi-level brake-regeneration system. The electric hatch also comes equipped with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity, a Harman Kardon audio system, a Nappa leather steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, and sports seats.
On the exterior, the new Mini Electric features a larger blanked-out front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, yellow accents on the wheels and mirror caps, and newly designed 17-inch alloys. It doesn’t have exhaust pipes and sits 15mm higher than its ICE-powered version. Design elements such as round LED headlamps and Union Jack-themed LED taillamps have been carried forward from the previous version.
The Cooper SE is as compact as its ICE version. It is 3850mm long and has a width of 1727mm and a height of 1432mm. A wheelbase of 2495mm ensures optimal cabin space within a small footprint. The boot space is relatively decent, standing at 211 liters, and the cargo area can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats.
The Mini Electric shares its platform and safety features with the ICE Cooper. It’s a secure choice for city driving, with features such as six airbags, an electronic stability program, ABS with EBD, traction control, a rearview camera, and hill start assist. The electric hatchback also comes with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech, providing access to safety features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and more.
The powertrain setup of the Mini Cooper SE consists of a 32.6kWh battery pack placed under the passenger seat in a T-shape. It has an electric motor delivering a peak power of 184bhp and 270Nm of torque, with power transferred to the front wheels. The electric hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds and offers a top speed of 150kmph. The Cooper SE comes with four drive modes: Mid, Green, Green+, and Sport.
Mini’s electric hatch promises a WLTP-certified range of up to 270km. It can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 36 minutes using a 50kW fast charge point and in 150 to 210 minutes via an 11kW wall box.
The Mini Electric is offered in four color options in India: British Racing Green, White Silver, Moonwalk Grey, and Midnight Black.
In terms of pricing, positioning, and body style, the Mini Cooper SE has no direct rival in India. It’s more expensive than the MG ZS EV and more affordable than the Kia EV6 and Mercedes-Benz EQC.
