Nissan India has officially confirmed the launch timelines for its upcoming SUV and MPV models. During the virtual launch of the Magnite CNG, Nissan India’s Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa addressed recent rumours about the brand’s possible exit from the Indian market. He firmly denied the speculation, stating that Nissan remains committed to India and that the company’s future product plans are progressing as scheduled.
Nissan is preparing to introduce a brand-new MPV in the Indian market by the first quarter of 2026. This model will be based on the Renault Triber platform and is expected to offer a compact yet practical alternative for Indian families. The MPV is part of Nissan’s renewed focus on expanding its lineup in the high-demand people mover segment.
Following the MPV launch, Nissan will bring in a C-segment SUV by mid-2026. This SUV will share its platform with the upcoming next-gen Renault Duster and is expected to compete in the hotly contested midsize SUV space.
Looking further ahead, a larger 7-seater SUV is set for launch in 2027. Nissan confirms this will not be a stretched version of the 5-seater but a completely re-engineered model, offering a full-fledged three-row experience tailored for larger families.
Nissan Magnite continues to play a crucial role in brand's portfolio. The compact SUV is currently exported to over 65 countries and has been updated with E20 fuel-compliant engines starting April 2025. Nissan has plans to further enhance the Magnite lineup to maintain its strong presence in the competitive segment.
Even though the X-Trail CBU didn’t perform well in the Indian market, Nissan is still exploring other CBU options, suggesting there’s more to come in the premium segment.
While diesel powertrains are not on the cards for now, Nissan is exploring various alternative fuel options. These include electric vehicles, hybrids, and CNG-powered models. More updates on this front are expected around 2027 as the company aligns with future fuel efficiency regulations in India.
Nissan’s earlier announcement of a Rs 700 crore investment in India is already being channelled into new vehicle development. The company aims to manufacture 1 lakh vehicles for both domestic sales and exports by FY26-27. This investment is part of Nissan’s broader strategy to strengthen its foothold in the Indian automotive market.
Despite stepping back from its joint manufacturing operations with Renault, Nissan clarified that this move won’t impact vehicle production. The company emphasized that the partnership with Renault remains strong, and the two brands will continue to share production resources at the Chennai facility without any disruptions.
Vatsa acknowledged challenges faced by dealers and confirmed that a few have exited the network. However, he assured that Nissan still operates 159 outlets across India. Efforts are now underway to improve dealer viability and expand the brand’s reach to support upcoming launches.
